Loss of genetic diversity among pirarucu broodstocks in fish farms: a pilot study

Molecular markers can be used to monitor genetic variability in cultivated fish stocks with the aim of developing better aquaculture techniques and increasing productivity. Our objective was evaluate pirarucu broodstocks farms southeast northeast Pará state, Brazil. The samples were genotyped using four microsatellite markers, diversity indices calculated for each broodstock. A total 16 alleles identified from loci tested 33 samples, means 3.00, 2.75, 2.25 per locus Tucumã, Parauapebas, Moju municipalities, respectively. Parauapebas broodstock had highest mean observed heterozygosity. In Tucumã AgCAm16 AgCAm18 not at Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. We suggest that there considerable losses breeding centers municipalities Moju, compared natural populations.
